Right now women comprise 17% of the members of Congress.
In 1992 ,women were 5% of women in Congress. Feminists donned their 5% buttons and didn't let anyone forget it. In 1992, which was dubbed the "Year of Women" by the media pundits, women doubled their numbers in Congress and went from 5% to 10%. But we have been stuck now for years and are only at 17% now.
In 2012 we have a chance for another Year of Women. So its time to don our 17% buttons to make sure it is not only an historic increase in women members but that the women elected are pro-choice and strong feminists.
